Endmyopia Journey Blog - Part 1 The Discovery

How it started

I went to the optometrist, because my lenses were scratched and I needed to replace them. After the usual check up I was told that I need more correction in my left eye. I was not too concerned about that as it was a long time since I needed more correction. But the optometrist also said that I have astigmatismus in the right eye that can't be fixed by an astigmatism correction as in by adding cylinder correction.

This was interesting and I started googling for "astigmatism eye yoga" and "exercises to fix astigmatism" to find out if there are other options if cylinder correction can't fix it. This is how I ended up on the Endmyopia website and discovered there are people that reduced their myopia or completely got rid of it with the Endmyopia method.

Books I found

I was already pretty convinced I will give it a try, but I anyway started to look around for other sources. I found these three books in the local library and checked what they are recommending.

They were mostly recommending various eye exercises, but also each of the books was recommending different exercises. :)

But they helped persuade me even more that myopia can be really reduced.

But what had the most influence was the Shortsighted podcast where regular people are sharing their experience with the Endmyopia method.

At this point I knew I had to try something and I decided to try the Endmyopia method, because it makes the most sense from the science point of view and becuase there are so many recommendations from people that tried it. Also I kind of like that it is expected to take 6 years for my -4.5 diopters to go all the way to 0. The expected rate is (0,75 diopters per year). If it took the eyes 30 years to go from 0 to -4.5 I would be even scared trying something that would promise faster results. I think it is better for the eyes to slowly adapt. Six years of steady improvements sounds anyway too good to be true. :)

My myopia increasing over the years

What I did so far

I did the 7 day free Endmyopia course. (Part of it was measuring the centimeters to blur during the day to see that it is really changing during the day. It is!)

I watched more Endmyopia videos directly from Jake Steiner and also from his students.

I ordered a test lense kit to measure. (Even though I can test my eyesight with the centimeters to blur method I wanted to have more options to compare the measurements. And also I wanted to test how many diopters I need to see the screen at 60cm.)

I printed an eye chart and astigmatism chart and put it on the wall at 3 meters from my desk.

And I ordered my first reduced prescription for closeup (-3,25 and -3) with big clear frame as recommended in the videos.

What now

Now I am waiting for the glasses to arrive and I am planning to do some more centimeter measurements to see if I can see a pattern in how my habits are influencing my eyesight.

To be continued...
